CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant)

This six(6) week, 80 clock hour short course trains the student to assist the nurse in medical procedures in a hospital or nursing home setting.  Although included in the Advanced Medical Assistant curriculum, this course is also offered as a separate accredited short term course.  In order to enroll in this program, a prospective student must have completed or be enrolled in a medical assistant or medical related program or possess satisfactory related past or future desired work experience with positive job and/or character references.  Students must also satisfactorily complete a state criminal background check and a drug screen.  To successfully complete this training, the student must complete the course with GPA of 2.0 and complete forty (40) clock hours of theory and (40) clock hours of practical in satisfactory progress.  Upon successful completion of this program, the graduate is awarded a certificate of completion in Nurse Aid Training and is responsible for scheduling and paying for certification testing with Prometric to be recognized as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) by the state of Louisiana.
